Slanted top desks are characteristic by their obvious inclined surface, naturally designed for the comfort of writing. 

These types of desks are portable and often sit propped on a merchants table utilized for written management of goods channeled through their doors. 

These desks consist of storage compartments often utilized with open concept as an internal storage area, however sometimes with small cubbies or partitions for organizing writing instruments, paper, and / or other various goods and supplies.

Many merchant writing desks were designed to be relatively compact and portable, allowing merchants or individuals to easily transport their writing setup.

These rare desks were commonly used in the 19th century and are often made of wood, such as pine for their durability and natural lighter weight.
